"The University of Arizona's School of Dance was recently awarded the right to produce "Tarantella," a ballet created by the renowned 20th century choreographer, George Balanchine.
This year the UA Dance Ensemble celebrates 10 years of performing in the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. Blessed by the completion of this theatre in 2003, wave after wave of dance majors rehearse and perform in this award winning, state-of-the-art facility. The 29,000 square foot complex, which houses a 300-seat theatre with spacious stage, is host to some 40 to 50 performances a year by UA Dance.
Lead architects on the project, Donna Barry and Jose Pombo created more than a decade ago a design so innovative that several awards recognized their work. Two AIA awards and a Best Public Project over $5M award led ultimately to the building being added as one of only fifteen on the list of “Arizona’s Greatest Architectural Wonders.”
